BTSC Commitment
Travel Soccer Time Commitment:
- Travel Soccer season spans from June to July the next year, primarily featuring the Fall and Spring Travel Soccer seasons. We encourage players to participate in both, though we understand if they have commitments to other sports. Coaches are flexible, especially during the spring season.
- Typically, teams practice twice a week. Fall practices kick off in early August and wrap up by late October or early November. Spring practices start in early March and conclude by late May or early June, with sessions lasting between 90 minutes to 2 hours.
- For our younger age groups (U11 and below), practices are held at the Hopewell Area Recreation Complex (HARC) in Stewartstown. Older age groups (U13 and above) practice at one of the fields at the Kennard Dale Campus in Fawn Grove. U12 may practice at either HARC or Kennard Dale depending on field availability.
- On weekends, teams usually play one game, and there could be anywhere from 0 to 3 tournaments per year, which require a full weekend commitment.
- During the fall season there are 8 games, and in the spring season, 7 games. About half of these games are hosted at home, while the rest involve travel ranging from 30 to 90 minutes.
- In the Fall Season, U12 and below play on Saturdays while U13 and above play on Sundays. In the spring season, U15 and younger play on Saturdays.
- Tournaments are decided at the discretion of the head coach, are usually within a 1–2 hour drive. Gettysburg, Dillsburg, Hershey, and Fallston MD are common tournament locations.
Travel Soccer Financial Commitment:
There are three main costs: registration fees, uniform costs, and tournament fees.
- Registration fees are $120 per player per season, covering league fees and referee expenses.
- Tournament fees are around $50 - $75 per tournament, per player, and teams typically participate in 0 to 3 tournaments per year. These fees are divided equally among rostered players.
- Uniform costs, separate from registration, total approximately $115 per player. This includes 3 jerseys (blue, yellow, and pink), 1 pair of socks, and 1 pair of shorts. Players can choose to purchase extra shorts and socks if they wish. Note that players can use their uniforms for multiple seasons as long as they still fit!
Travel Soccer Age Groups and Team Sizes
- Wondering which age group suits your player best? Travel soccer teams are organized and compete based on birth year. Our tryouts at Barrens Travel Soccer Club also operate by birth year. Sometimes, teams may have players from different birth years grouped together. In such cases, the team will compete at the age-group of the oldest player on the team.
- Each age group in our travel soccer program has specific game formats, field sizes, and roster sizes. Here's a breakdown:
- U9 & U10: 7v7, with a roster of at least 8 and no more than 12 players.
- U11 & U12: 9v9, with a roster of at least 10 and no more than 16 players.
- U13 & up: 11v11, with a roster of at least 13 and no more than 22 players.
Team Formation and Continuity
- At Barrens Travel Soccer Club, we'll form as many teams as we have enthusiastic players and qualified coaches. Typically, we've had one team per gender at each age group, but it can vary based on coach availability and player interest.
- Concerned about changes once a team is formed? We aim to maintain consistent age groupings from year to year for team continuity. However, roster changes are inevitable due to various factors like new players, changing interests, or coach adjustments.
Tryout Results:
- Coaches will issue roster invitations after all tryouts are done, usually sometime in May. Players will have 96 hours to commit upon receiving an invitation and families will receive further instructions from the team coach or manager.
Not Making the Team:
- Didn't make the cut? While we strive to include everyone, some players may not receive invitations due to roster limitations. We encourage players to explore our Intramural Program run by our sister organization (Barrens Soccer Club) as an alternative. https://www.barrens-soccer.org/
